Two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies named their squad for the 2024 edition of the tournament this June. Rovman Powell will lead the side for the first time at a world event.

The swashbuckling middle order batter has 71 T20I outings to his name, in which he’s scored 1312 runs that includes a century and six fifties.

Among the prominent additions is that of Shamar Joseph, who made his Test debut earlier this year in Australia and led West Indies to their first ever Test win down under since 1997.

Despite his form in the ongoing IPL season, KKR’s Sunil Narine isn’t part of the squad, as he had made clear a few days ago. “That door is now closed.”

In what is a batting heavy lineup, the other notable picks are Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer and Andre Russell.

All-rounders part of the West Indies squad are Roston Chase, Jason Holder, and Alzarri Joseph, who’s been named as Powell’s deputy. While Akeal Hossain and Gudakesh Motie make up for the spinners in the squad alongside Chase.

The West Indies are clubbed alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda in Group C and kickstart their campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2 in Guyana.
